Acupuncture and MS?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
How can acupuncture help multiple sclerosis (MS)? What are the main areas that should be focused on when having an acupuncture procedure?

A: MS is a degenerative disorder in which the peripheral nerves degenerate progressively, causing the symptoms associated with this condition. Acupuncture has shown much effectiveness in stimulation of the peripheral nervous system; therefore, acupuncture, in theory, can assist with the symptoms of MS.

I suggest that you focus on distal motor areas to assist with motor function recovery. Also, look into beginning an herbal regiment; there are many herbal supplements that can help. A licensed practitioner will be able to advise you more specifically.
