Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
I’m trying to cut back my sugar consumption, but still like to sweeten my tea. Is brown sugar any better for me than white?
A: Actually, brown sugar is white sugar with molasses added for color. In essence, you are still consuming sugar. Instead, try raw honey, stevia products, or other natural sweeteners. Also, though it may take some getting used to, try unsweetened tea for your beverage of choice; you may add some cinnamon to give it a mild sweet taste.
