Q: Dear Dr. Mao, Do you believe that colonics work and produce good results?
A: Traditional Chinese medicine relies more on the body’s internal mechanisms to cleanse itself, rather than externally invasive procedures. We tend to use delicately prepared herbal preparations to achieve similar affects as the colonics. However, there are instances where colonics have been used very effectively, especially in conjunction with internal herbal prescriptions. There is a place for proper use of colonics in balance with other internal cleansing modalities.
I am glad that you had a good experience with a colonic modality. As a word of caution however, I have noticed an increased trend in the use of colonics. It is important to ensure that the practitioner understands the effects of such an invasive treatment and can properly balance the body’s lost vital substances.
If you are interested in detoxifying your body in a less invasive way, I recommend you try the “Internal Cleanse” supplement from Traditions of Tao. Of course, discuss with your physician before beginning any new health regime.
