Exercise for weight loss?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
Can you tell me what kind of exercise I can do that will not overstress my body, but will help me to tone up and lose weight?

A: I personally use and recommend to all my patients a form of moving meditation called qigong. There are various forms available and you can learn them through videotapes or in person depending on the availability of teachers in your area. An excellent form is the “Eight Treasures” which is a 30-minute moving meditation that exercises all the major muscle groups in the body, helps tone and stretch, and also works wonders on the endocrine and mental systems of the body. For further information on the various forms, you can contact local traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) schools where they teach these programs. A good online source is www.chihealth.org

You may also find these specially formulated Traditions of Tao products helpful for weight loss: “B-Slim” and “Abundant Energy”. Of course, discuss with your physician before beginning any new health regime.
