Help for a shoulder blade that is pinched and stiff?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
My right shoulder blade is often pinched and stiff. Is this because of my posture or something else that you can point to?

A: Upper back musculo-sckeletal conditions are often related to stress. Depending on your profession and activity, it is possible that you place undue stress on your upper back (as most repetitive work tends to do, especially sitting in front of a computer for long hours). So change your posture, get a good lumbar support chair, keep your sitting posture erect, and extend your back. Take small breaks and do stretching exercises to loosen the tendons and muscles in the back.

You can also try the herbal supplement “Pain” and “Tonic Oil” by Traditions of Tao to relax your muscles. Of course, discuss with your physician before beginning any new health regime.
