How long for a facial rash to clear up with acupuncture?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
I developed a rash on my face due to allergies, and it came back after my first acupuncture session. I am taking a lot of supplements, but there is no improvement yet. Does the condition get worse before it gets better?

A: It is true that it often takes time to resolve complex internal conditions. This being the case, I encourage you to continue the treatments for at least six more sessions, after which your practitioner will reevaluate the treatment if no improvement is evident. The key to success with Chinese medicine is compliance. If you continue diligently and patiently, the results will come.
