Painful menstruation?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
During menstruation, I experience a lot more pain than my friends. Could this point to any dangerous conditions that I should look into?

A: We do not know why menstruation is uncomfortable at all, or why it is much more painful for some women than for others and varies so much from month to month. Occasionally, severe menstrual pain indicates the presence of endometriosis (a condition in which uterine tissue is growing in places other than the uterus) or uterine fibroids (benign tumors in the uterus), but in most cases no such identifiable abnormality can be found.

You may try the specially formulated herbal formulas “Passages Plus” and “Menstruation” from the Traditions of Tao to help reduce your menstrual pain. Of course, discuss with your physician before beginning any new health regime.
