Soften the bottom of my rough feet?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao, The bottom of my feet become very dry and tough even though I get pedicures on a weekly basis. Could this be because I walk on them so much? Can you suggest something to help to soften them up?

A: Palms and soles belong in the yin aspect of your body; as such, it appears that you may be depleting your yin energies. Dryness in general may be a chronic condition due to depleted internal fluids. First, stop walking barefoot because it may worsen the condition. Second, keep your feet moist by giving them steam baths. Third, keep hydrated and drink plenty of water, at least 60 ounces per day.

This is a good steam bath for you feet:
Dissolve some mang xiao (Natrii sulfas mirabilite) and seaweed. Then steam the soles of your feet over it.
