Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
I suffer from motion sickness on long drives. Is there a natural way for me to treat this?
A: Studies show that ginger can help with motion sickness, but don’t significantly decrease nausea and vertigo. To prevent motion sickness, it is probably best to begin treatment 1 or 2 days before the trip and continue it throughout the period of travel.
A good form of ginger is freshly brewed tea made from boiled ginger root or powdered ginger and diluted to taste. If chilled, carbonated, and sweetened, this would become the original form of ginger ale, a famous anti-nausea beverage.
