What to eat for high blood pressure?

Q: Dear Dr. Mao,
I would like a recommendation for a beneficial diet for the following ailments: lack of energy, headaches, bloating, and loss of muscle tone. What would you suggest for me?

A: You are describing a condition of digestive deficiency which in unable to provide the proper energy metabolism, hence the weight gain, bloating and lack of energy and muscle tone. If you have severe headaches, you should have those checked with a physician.

In the mean time I have the following recommendations:

1. Avoid rich, oily, fatty, fried foods, and moderate your intake of dairy and simple sugars. Avoid diet drinks and sodas; instead, drink watered down juices or plain water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water daily.

2. Cut back on stress, and avoid watching television while eating.

3. Eat more hawthorn berries, papayas, yams, pineapples, brown rice, oats, pearl barley, daikon radish, apples, and oranges.

4. Eat five smaller meals per day with the last meal no later than 7 PM.

You may find these specially formulated Traditions of Tao products helpful for digestion: “Abundant Energy”, “B-Slim”, and “Indigestion”. Of course, discuss with your physician before beginning any new health regime.
